Look up in the sky! It’s a bird, It’s a plane, It’s a flying… stuffed… cat!?
By now I’m sure you’ve heard about drones, but maybe you’re only used to hearing about the intimidating and kind of terrifying drones that are used in the military. If that’s the case, allow me to enlighten you. Drones are pretty amazing for many reasons, but instead of writing a book on all the reasons and different applications, I’ll just name a few. From the obvious to the unforeseen, we’ll explore the most interesting and useful ways drones can and are being used today.
Now, I’m not saying conventional photography has gotten boring, but sometimes it can be a bit predictable, especially when it’s used within a profession. Drones have changed all that and are now becoming the norm rather than the exception when it comes to photography. Wedding photography takes the cake, for sure. Having a photographer standing behind the bride and groom to take pictures of that special moment would be a little inappropriate, don’t you think? Not to mention ruin all the guests’ photos. Apparently, drones are becoming standard in this industry now. What’s more magical than capturing your day from up above, anyway? And how about Real Estate? Bet you didn’t think of that one. Drones are “changing the game” of Real Estate. Whether it’s to capture acreage, a whole neighborhood, or a beautiful waterfront; drones are giving agents the ability show off their seller’s property in more ways than ever before.
I bet you thought I was going to say Superman when you read “It’s a bird, It’s a plane…,” but this might just be the closest thing to a superhero. I’d like to point out that drones can not only be life changing, but possibly even lifesaving.
It might be obvious at this point, but sending a drone in instead of public safety personnel to investigate a high-risk area can and will save lives. Drones can be equipped with inferred cameras, heat sensors, motion detectors and more, which could be used for a variety of situations. Instead of risking our policemen and firefighters’ lives in every dangerous situation we can now surveillance and assess the scenes beforehand.
The Amazing and Unbelievable
Here’s some food for thought: drones + Chipotle = Chipotle delivery. I’m serious, or should I say, Alphabet, Google’s parent company is serious. They, along with Virginia Tech, are apart of a program and are testing ways to make this happen. Unfortunately, Virginia Tech students are the only lucky ones right now. But if this takes off, this program will be the pilot of a whole new “transportation technologies” era.
Some people like knitting, some people like playing sports, but others enjoy taxidermy! Bart Jansen lost his cat in a traffic accident and instead of what anyone else would do, he decided to memorialize it by turning it into an unmanned, but felined aerial vehicle. Apparently he’s turned it into a business called Copter Company and has made other stuffed drones, like an ostrich-copter, shark-jet and badger-submarine; just to name a few!
